Stairwell Cover

Back in the old days when we had our very first Aerbus, with no slide outs, the walkway between the cockpit and the bedroom was somewhat narrow. Particularly when the dog decided that her place was right in the middle of the walkway.

So we thought of how we could add a couple more square feet to the floor space.

“Well, the diesels have that nice stairwell cover. Why don’t you make one for our stairwell? At the least it would give the dog a place to lie down,” said Linda.

I used half inch thick plywood, reinforced the “free” edge adjacent to the door itself with a three quarter inch square ribbing. My dimensions ended up being 30 inches wide and 24 inches deep. I cut a “hand hold” in the center, and it stored neatly in the basement.

For a non slide model, this does give some extra floor space. Particularly for the dog. She would lie there quietly until we were busy, and then quickly slip back into the center of the aisle. Even a padded cushion could not keep her there.

You might have guessed that the two major reasons we bought a bigger Aerbus were the “dog window” for her to look out, and the slide for us to be able to get passed her. Anyone want to buy a stairwell cover?
