Swan Holding Tank Rinse System
Rexhalls are supplied with holding tank rinse systems by
Swan. The hose connection in the holding tank compartment allows for
flushing out both holding tanks when we dump. This irrigation sprays fresh
water on the walls and roof of the tanks to assure removal of both solids and
films sticking to the walls. It also allows for filling of the tanks to
assure a "good dump". I think it is a great idea, and am very happy
Rexhall includes it.
The
only problem I have had is with the shut off valve leaking after a period of
time. It is a plastic hose fitting, and just doesn't seem to stand up very
well. I thought about replacing it with a brass one when it started
leaking, but I decided to be cheap and try one more plastic one. It too
worked fine for a while, and then it began to leak too. A bit of a leak is
no big deal, since if you leave the Swan lever on gray water, it is only the
fresh water left in the pipe leading to the gray water tank that is leaking out.
But it is not exceptionally aesthetically pleasing.
A number of others have replaced the valve with brass, and it is an easy fix. You need a female-female brass garden hose adapter, and a brass on/off valve. You can include a snap quick connect if you wish.
Another trick when rinsing, is that you must have a faucet for your rinse hose to attach to. I carry two ten foot hoses that I can hook together if the faucet is over ten feet away. As you know, dump stations frequently have an amputated hose end (no male end hose connector). But if you look carefully and carry a pair of pliers, you can almost always find a place to detach the dump station hose and replace it with your own hose.
