REXHALL TIPS
DIESEL STEERING WHEEL TABLE
It’s inexpensive, really
quite simple and nothing new, but adds a new dimension to the driver’s corner,
your living area and exterior viewing appearance..jpg)
- Measure steering wheel
diameter and add two or three inches for overlap.
- At Home Depot or any home
improvement store or hardware, find a ½” or ¾” round with your diameter
dimension made of plywood or compressed board.
- With a level handy, place
the round on the steering wheel and lift until round is level.
- Measure distance from
about 3” in from bottom of steering wheel to bottom of round. Normally a 2” x
4” brace will work perfectly if placed correctly across the round.
- Mark position of 2” x 4”
or other lumber you’re using on round. Drill 3 pilot holes and use 1 ½” or 2”
screws to attach brace to round.
- Place round on steering
wheel, level E/W & N/S and Voila! you have a first class table.
- Use round (or square)
table cloth (smallest size you can find) to drape the round, add lamp and
other table toppers to give your handy work a festive and appealing
appearance.
- Set up time is about 3
minutes
TOTAL COST:
About $3.75 for the round; 2” x 4” cutoffs (you only need about 18”) are easy to
find FREE at any lumber yard or
housing project. Your time? Priceless! The table top with
adjustable settings is available from commercial vendors at most RV shows for
$40 to $50.
NOTE:
This table was installed on a 2001 Aerbus
(diesel). Since an electrical outlet is not available on the driver’s
side, an extension cord was run from the passenger side electrical outlet on the
floor behind the dash and through an opening next to the gas pedal. Twist
ties are used to keep the cord from interfering with the pedal.
