Living in Oregon and loving to travel to our favorite campground on the coast, we see a little rain. But where do you hang those drippy raincoats. They never dry outside under the awning (humidity).
The shower seemed logical, but hooking the coathanger over the top of the shower left one wet side plastered against the glass.
So I bought (actually I had some left over) one inch diameter, white, PVC plastic irrigation pipe. Schedule 40, 450 psi is a bit thicker walled, and a little stiffer, but the thin walled, low pressure (125 psi) will work fine. Getting the length right is a little tricky. You want it to be as long as possible so it doesn’t fall into the shower, but short enough so it can be placed on top of the shower walls. It has to go in on an angle.
The length for a standard Rexhall shower is approximately 45 inches, and the length for a garden bathtub/shower is 56 inches.
Sanding the pvc with some fine sandpaper takes off all the writing, and makes a nice texture.
When parked the rod will not fall into the shower, but if you are driving and the rod wants to fall in, buy one or two one inch diameter pvc “pipe connectors”. These can be slipped over one or both ends of the rod after it is in place on top of the shower, and will lengthen it enough so it cannot fall. Of course you can't get the rod down without taking them off.
If hooked up, an electric space heater (or hair dryer) can be aimed into the opened shower door to speed drying.
The pvc rod stands in the corner of the wardrobe closet, held in place with a bungie cord loop. Right next to the umbrella.

Dorothy Beasley presented her alternative idea in FMCA October 2003. http://www.fmca.com/fmc2003/octmag/tips.asp They leave their awning out when it is raining, and large suction cups supplied with hooks are attached to the side of the RV, and allow them to hang their rain gear outside.
