Installing a Kitchen Fan

My 2001 Rexhall Vision 3150 came with a roof vent in the kitchen but no fan.  I decided it would be nice to have a fan, and proceeded to investigate the practicality of adding one.  My experience is recorded here for the benefit of those who might be in a similar circumstance.

I discovered that Rexhall places an empty conduit from the passengers side electrical bundle (which runs at the junction of the wall and ceiling) through the ceiling to the vent even in those coaches that don't have a fan.  So that made it relatively easy to pass wires from the electrical bundle area to the vent.  The Rexhall Service Center recommended I tap into the 12 volt overhead light circuit, which is rated at 15 amps.  The Fantastic Fan I chose is protected with a 4 amp fuse.

I then removed my old vent and replaced it with the Fantastic Fan, connecting the wiring and caulking the perimeter from the roof.  I also made the decision to use the simple Maxx Air vent cover, rather than the more elaborate and expensive model.  I felt it was important to remove the fine mesh screen on the vent cover, since it was evident that it would have high resistance to air flow.

I have been very happy with the results.  The Fantastic Fan moves a lot of air, and really helps on those warm days.  I would strongly encourage those of you without a fan to consider adding one.  Going from the small (but inadequate) fan that comes with some coaches, to the Fantastic Fan would be easier since electricity is already at the vent/fan.
